Prof. Witold Orłowski

Professional experience:

Professor Witold M. Orłowski is an academic lecturer and chief economic advisor of PwC. In 2007, he received the scientific title of full professor of economic sciences. In the years 2002-2005, he was the head of the Team of Economic Advisors to the President of the Republic of Poland, in 2010-2015 a member of the Government’s Economic Council, in 2007-2010, and in 2015-2020 a member of the National Development Council.

He studied economics at the University of Lodz and Harvard University (USA). He habilitated at the University of Warsaw, presenting the book: “Droga do Europy. Makroekonomia wstępowania do Unii Europejskiej“, awarded by the Bank Handlowy prize for the best book in the field of economics and finance theory in 1998.

After a period of academic work, in 1991-93 he worked in the Office for European Integration, participating in negotiations of the association agreement between Poland and the European Union. In the years 1993-97, he worked at the World Bank, and in the following years, he advised government institutions, and international and business organizations. In 1997, he co-founded the Independent Center for Economic Research.

He is the author of 15 books, and author or co-author of over 200 scientific publications (published in Poland, the USA, Great Britain, France, Austria, and Germany). He is a popular economic commentator and columnist for major Polish newspapers.
