On November 23rd there was another WUT BS Inspirational Lecture. This time we met with Dr Pål M. Vik, who answered the question: „Is there a right level of financial inclusion for households?”.
In the last few years, millions of previously unbanked European households have opened and started using formal financial services as employers, government, retailers and service providers have increasingly shifted from cash to digital payments. Despite its scale and significance, there has been very little focus on the potential impact of this shift on household financial behaviour and outcomes. In this talk, Dr Pål M. Vik drew on a critical review of existing theoretical and empirical literature to argue that we need to address this gap and set out a tentative research and policy agenda.
